DSIX Internet Exchange

AS58218 IX-F ID 939 Euro-IX Listed Founded 2021

While DSIX had been operating informally before, it was officially established on April 4, 2021 with the support of Arnold Nipper, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Evangelist at DE-CIX, who helped DreamServer obtain the official IXF-ID 939 in the Euro-IX IXP Database. We are deeply grateful for his guidance and trust in our vision. DSIX operates on peering LAN 185.0.0.0/24 (IPv4) and 2001:7f8:133::/64 (IPv6).

What is an Internet Exchange?

An Internet Exchange Point (IXP) is a physical location where different networks, ISPs, content providers, and enterprises connect to exchange traffic directly, rather than routing through expensive upstream transit providers.

By peering at an IXP, networks reduce latency (traffic takes the shortest path), lower bandwidth costs (local traffic stays local), and improve redundancy (multiple peering paths available).

DSIX is Romania's community-driven Internet Exchange operated by DreamServer in Bucharest. We offer free peering ports to all DreamServer customers, making it easy to join the exchange and start benefiting from direct interconnection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about peering at DSIX.

What is DSIX?
DSIX (DreamServer Internet Exchange) is a community Internet Exchange Point in Bucharest, Romania, operated under AS58218. It allows networks to peer directly and exchange traffic locally instead of routing through expensive upstream transit providers.
Is DSIX peering free?
Yes. DSIX peering is free for all DreamServer dedicated server and VPS customers. No setup fee, no monthly fee, no bandwidth cap. Both 1 Gbps and 10 Gbps ports are available.
What is DSIX ASN?
DSIX operates under Autonomous System Number AS58218. Members peer via route servers at 185.0.0.1 and 185.0.0.254 (IPv4) and 2001:7f8:133::5:8218:1/2 (IPv6).
How do I join DSIX?
Order any DreamServer dedicated server or VPS, then email noc@dreamserver.ro with your ASN, PeeringDB profile, and preferred port speed. We provision new members within 24 hours.
What peering policy does DSIX have?
DSIX has an open peering policy via route servers. Bilateral peering is also supported between members.
Does DSIX support RPKI?
Yes. DSIX route servers perform RPKI ROA validation and fall back to IRR database filtering if ROA is unknown. Invalid prefixes are dropped.
Where is DSIX located?
DSIX is hosted in the DreamServer datacenter in Bucharest, Romania, within the European Union jurisdiction.
How many members does DSIX have?
DSIX currently has over 15 active members, including ISPs, hosting providers, content networks, and DNS operators. The list is updated automatically from the IX-F Member Export API.
What port speeds does DSIX offer?
DSIX offers 1 Gbps and 10 Gbps ports. Both speeds are free for DreamServer customers, regardless of port type. Upgrades between port speeds are free and typically completed within 24 hours.
Does DSIX provide a looking glass?
Yes. DSIX operates a public looking glass where you can run BGP show commands, trace routes, and view prefixes announced by members. Access is available via the DSIX portal after joining.
Is IPv6 required for DSIX peering?
IPv6 is strongly encouraged but not strictly required. Dual-stack members (IPv4 + IPv6) gain full benefit from modern internet traffic patterns. DSIX route servers fully support both address families.
Can I do bilateral peering at DSIX?
Yes. While DSIX route servers simplify peering by default, you can also establish bilateral BGP sessions directly with other members. Contact information and IPs are published in the member list and on PeeringDB.
